Cyrenians is looking for Residential Peer Mentors

Volunteering in Scotland

Cyrenians association is looking for Residential Peer Mentors aged 16-30 for 6-9 months placements in Edinburgh, Scotland.

A great opportunity for those who may be interested in working with underprivileged groups or in social care in the future.

The two Communities (Farm and City) have up to eight residents each, who are aged 16-30 and come to live in the communities as a result of being homeless.

The Communities support the residents to develop their confidence, skills and abilities in order to begin to live independently and, eventually, to move to a more sustainable living environment away from personal crisis.

Peer Mentors live alongside the residents in the communities and together manage day-to-day domestic tasks and decisions. The role is one of modelling positive behaviour rather than supervision, helping the residents to gain confidence and together maintaining a friendly and supportive community to live in.

Accommodation, food, weekly allowance and holiday money are provided along with training, support and the opportunity to take part in activities.

More information

Cyrenians is an independent Scottish charity stopping homelessness and supporting people.ย For 50 years, it has served those on the edge, working with the homeless and vulnerable to transform their lives by beginning with their story, helping them believe that they can change their lives, and walking with them as they lead their own transformation.

Our Vision is an inclusive society in which we all have the opportunities to live valued and fulfilled lives. We work to make that vision a reality by our Mission to support people excluded from family, home, work or community on their life journey.

Our way of work is built on our four core values:

We believe that everyone should have the chance to change, no matter how long that might take.

We believe in tolerance, acceptance, valuing diversity and treating each other as equals.

We are committed to the highest quality of work, grounded in honesty, generosity, sincerity and professionalism.

We are willing to take risks, challenge convention and be very creative in our search for new ways of working.ย In particular by taking account of the environmental impact of our decisions.

Cyrenians is an independent Scottish Charity, no. SCO11052.
