General Info

We invite volunteers to come and live with us for a short time and learn about our way of life.
We hope that you can bring skills and ideas to help improve our way of life and potential to improve our situation.
Most of us have arrived at the camp with very little, we have built our lives using the shared skills and effort of our community.
We are very open to learning new things to help improve our situation. Agriculture, Technology, Sport, Language… we welcome YOU!

When we need volunteers

We welcome volunteers at any time.

Do we require a minimum duration?

Yes, we require a minimum of 1 Week
The maximum is 2 weeks

Volunteering with us is suitable for

Individuals – groups

What we Provide

The accommodation is comfortable and safe.

  • Accommodation – Lodging is not in the refugee camp, they are at Kakuma town.
  • Guesthouse type, which we can’t, unfortunately, pay for you.
You will be provided with privacy, fresh water, internet connectivity.
There is also a town (with shops, market etc) just 5km from the camp.
We highly recommend reading the Refugee Camp Visitor guide – read more:

Meals

A variety of food will be provided, including rice, ugali, vegetables, tea, meat and more.
You must try our local Mandazi (Swahili Coconut Doughnut)

Fees – transparency

35 euros per night + a subscription fee to be paid only once

We are happy to have volunteers sharing their skills and experience but because of our current situation, it is necessary for them to pay for their own house and food. If you strongly want to come here but you’re also financially low, feel free to get in touch anyway and we’ll discuss alternative possibilities. Keep in mind that the 35 euros per night won’t go to our refugee centre (unfortunately) but will go to the guesthouse that is actually providing nice and comfortable accommodation in Kakuma.

The subscription fee, instead, is a small donation (up to you – 5, 10, 20 euros…) to be sent in advance as a booking fee.
