Eco-community in Algarve, Portugal, welcome volunteers!

eco-village in Portugal

We are a small family ECO community / glampsite for which we always look for positive volunteers. We have great experience working with volunteers and some of them keep returning to our place they call โ€˜familyโ€™ by now.

Details of our place:

Weโ€™re a young crew from Amsterdam, living our dream on the South-West coast of Portugal and weโ€™re looking for some happy volunteers to help support our project. We live in the Algarve and Vicentine Natural Park, close to the ocean, and decided to go green by challenging ourselves to work towards being more self-sufficient and sustainable.

Last year we opened our little paradise to the public, letting people experience an eco โ€œglampingโ€ style holiday. Our main goal is to reconnect with nature whilst inspiring our guests and volunteers with a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

So, what are we looking for?

Eco-community in Algarve, PortugalFirst and foremost, weโ€™re looking for people who love nature, can interact with our guests and have some enthusiasm for the hospitality business. The types of skills required and the nature of projects weโ€™re working on change throughout the season:

February thru April โ€จour main focus is preparing for the hospitality season! Jobs include building, gardening, and general maintenance. In this period we need people with carpentry skills, gardeners, electricians, and strong general handy wo/men.

Specific jobs to be done:
  • Making eco-toilets.
  • Setting up solar electricity at our eco-tents.
  • Pitching tipis & safari tents.
  • Building eco-friendly shower areas.
  • Clearing land, trimming trees and gardening.
  • Creating natural chill-out areas.
  • Constructing a floating wooden structure on the lake for musical performances, etc.

May thru Octoberโ€จ the main focus is hospitality!

During this time weโ€™re shouting out to people with experience in the tourism/hospitality sector, or happy people who enjoy interacting with guests and donโ€™t mind getting their hands dirty (think, cleaning tents, changing eco-toilets, washing dishes, and supporting our guest check-in procedure). Throughout this period, our volunteers work rotating shifts, meaning youโ€™ll be allocated a different dedicated task each week, depending on our needs and your strengths and preferences.

Specific jobs to be done:
  • Breakfast shift (07:00-12:00)
  • Cleaning shift (11:00-15:00)
  • General maintenance shift (08:00-13:00)
  • Dinner / pizza evening shift (16:00-21:00)
  • Check-in shift (15:00-20:00)
Also needed (May thru October):
  • Experienced yoga/pilates teachers.
  • Vegetarian/vegan chefs.
  • Animal carers (dogs, chickens & cats).
  • Household support and babysitting (Flint, 2 years old & Jip, 8 years old).
And what can you expect?

Be prepared for some physical work, dirty hands, thinking, planning and the need to find solutions in a natural, back-to-basics setting, surrounded by aromatic smells from wild lavender, eucalyptus and pine trees, birdsong, refreshing coastal winds, plenty of adventure and gorgeous natural swimming lakes.

What do we ask for?

We ask our volunteers for a minimum commitment of 3 weeks, working 5 days per week and ยฑ 5 hours a day. Working hours can vary due to the nature of working with guests. During your free time, you can do your own thing! Most volunteers enjoy visiting some of the many stunning beaches in the area, surfing, walking in nature and travelling around the Algarve.Eco-community in Algarve, Portugal

What will you eat?

We provide a warm lunch on the days you work, either prepared by the volunteers or one of us. Youโ€™ll need to prepare your own breakfast and evening meal with ingredients we provide. During your non-working days, we kindly ask you to provide your own ingredients and cook for yourself. Any expensive/special non-vegan or exotic ingredients need to be provided by the volunteers.

Since everyone is unique, we can, of course, adapt to the situation with clear communication.

Where will you stay?

We currently have 4 camping tents, and one campervan and we welcome volunteers with their own tents or vans. Those staying in our tents will likely share with one other volunteer.

How will you get around?

About getting back and forth between the nearest town (Budens) and our remote paradise; please know itโ€™s a bumpy 7km hill ride! Therefore, we recommend coming by car or renting a scooter or motorbike in Lagos.

If you don’t have a car, weโ€™re more than happy to give our volunteers a ride when we drop off/pick up our children from school or head out for other things, such as shopping and surfing.Eco-community in Algarve, Portugal

What else should you know?

Yoga/Pilates classes are offered to our guests, but when your work schedule allows, youโ€™re more than welcome to join them for free.

We are not a luxurious eco-resort with shiny facilities or a youth hostel. Thus, we work hard and follow our ethos ‘the luxury of having less’. Naturally, everything is clean and safe, we have limited Wi-Fi, warm running water during sunny hours, solar power and serve healthy nutritious lunches.

Is that everything?

Yup! If you are non-smoking, like working hard and want to spend time outside surrounded by beautiful nature and positive people, we encourage motivated, open-minded volunteers to come to join our team ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, and weโ€™d really appreciate it if you mention which task(s) and time of year youโ€™re interested in applying for in the subject of your message!
