Help out on a cut flower and foliage farm in Dorset, UK

organic farm, flowers, volunteer projects, wwoof, wwoofing, helpx, workaway, voluntouring, voluntourism

Help at Spindle Flowers โ€“ We have 1.5 acres of foliage, shrubs, perennial flowers & annuals. We work loosely on an organic, permaculture system, using no-dig. We don’t live on-site but have a caravan with a compost toilet, and heating. Showering and an evening meal would be at our home 3 miles away in Lyme Regis.

Update:

What’s the mission of your community? ๐ŸŽฏ

We aim to educate florists and growers about the benefits of sustainably grown flowers and foliage. We sell flowers wholesale as well as running courses and doing some events. It’s hard work so we always need help, particularly in the winter with mulching and weeding, as well as harvesting foliage and getting the timber-frame barn ready for courses.

Volunteers with disabilities โ™ฟ

Volunteers with disabilities are welcome โ™ฟ โœ…

Note: We are looking for volunteers who already have a lot of experience in horticulture.
It’s a field, so it’s bumpy ground unsuitable for a wheelchair. The timber-frame barn, with toilet and bathroom, have wheelchair access. Wheelchair users may find work limited as it’s mainly on-field work. Seed sowing, pricking out etc would be good for wheelchair users. This happens in April and again in September.

How many volunteers could you host? ๐ŸŽŽ

A couple of volunteers

When would you need volunteers? ๐Ÿ“…

all year long

How many hours of help per day? โฑ

4-5 hours of help per day

How many days of help per week? ๐ŸŒ’

4 days of help per week – 3 days off

Note about the volunteer work and other expectations ๐Ÿ“

I expect the volunteers to be vaccinated against Covid. They will need to be hard-working, with experience in horticulture, and have good communication skills, which includes listening.

Are accommodation and food included? ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿœ

VISA – could you provide Visa support/info/invitation letters? ๐Ÿ›‚

No! we cannot help with Visa/invitation letters – similar requests will be ignored. โŒ

Volunteers’ benefits ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ…

You’ll be staying in a beautiful, rural location with a fire pit so you can sit under the stars and feel the peace of the place. You’ll be welcome to join in any floristry or foliage growing courses that are running at the time of your visit as long as you’re happy to make the tea!

What to do in the free time ๐Ÿšด๐Ÿšฃ๐Ÿฆ’

If you have a car you can get to the beach in 15 mins. Buses are few and far between, but we can let you borrow our bikes. Bridport is 7 miles away and is a lovely town with a great market on Saturdays. Walks are wonderful, all around, and Lyme Regis is only 4 miles away too.

Language ๐Ÿ—ฃ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

English

Geography ๐ŸŒณ

It’s rainy old England. Don’t expect sunshine, so when you get it it’s a bonus! In the winter it can be quite grey. The field, though, is still a nice place to be all year round, and the timber-frame barn has a ping pong table for rainy days.

How to get to your site โœˆ ๐Ÿ—บ

General address: Champernhayes Corner, Champernhayes Lane, Wootton Fitzpaine, Dorset, DT7 3AA. You’ll probably need a car or taxi to find us first time around. After that you could probably use a bike. Buses are rare.

Is there internet access? ๐ŸŒ

Yes!
