Farm & Horse exchange in Italy โWe are a couple living in Piedmont, between the two areas of Biellese and Canavese, in the heart of one of the largest green areas of the region. We feel incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by nature, and we want to share this experience with others. We are opening our doors to voluntourists for the first time this year and are excited to welcome them to our farm. As volunteers, your main task will be to help care for our four horses, one dog, and chickens. Also, we’d love for you to join us in our relaxed lifestyle, which includes working on our computers and enjoying the outdoors. Volunteers will be asked to work for an average of four hours per day, completing tasks like feeding the animals, cleaning the stables, and helping in the garden. (cooking and cleaning not included but that should be no more than 1 hour and it’s on rota basis). You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the natural surroundings on foot, bike, or horseback.
Update June 2023:
Since publishing our announcement on Voluntouring, we have been inundated with volunteer requests, and we couldn’t be happier about it! However, due to the high volume of inquiries, we regretfully haven’t been able to respond to everyone, and for that, we sincerely apologize. We are now fully booked until the end of October, and we are uncertain about hosting in November and the winter months. Nevertheless, please feel free to reach out to us, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Furthermore, we are contemplating the possibility of accepting guests in exchange for donations. This would be similar to Couchsurfing, where guests won’t be expected to contribute any volunteer work. In this scenario, we would provide complimentary stays in our modest rooms, but guests would be responsible for their own food expenses. This approach is something we may consider for the near future as we strive to improve the habitability of the sleeping spaces.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we navigate through these exciting and busy times.
Benefits (Food and accommodation)
As a volunteer, you will receive a private room to stay in during your time with us. Depending on the number of volunteers staying with us at any given time (we typically host between 4-5 volunteers), you may need to share the room with another volunteer. However, we always strive to ensure everyone has a comfortable and enjoyable stay, and will do our best to accommodate your needs and preferences.
Diet
We provide vegetarian or vegan meals (at breakfast, lunch and dinner). Unfortunately, we cannot provide meat, but you are welcome to bring and prepare it for yourself. Food is basic so please don’t expect restaurant level! Also, we cook on a rota basis, and we’ll make sure you won’t starve.
Things to do in your free time
We’ll take you horseback riding and visit nearby lakes, landmarks, and natural parks as often as possible. There are plenty of places to explore in our area, including the picturesque Viverone lake, the medieval city of Ivrea, and the charming town of Biella. We’re also close to a natural park where you can try your luck at gold panning (Bessa Nature Reserve)!
We’re amateur musicians, so if you enjoy playing music too, you’re more than welcome to join our jam sessions!
Location
Maintaining our privacy is important to us, but we also want to make sure you feel welcome and informed. After confirming your request for hospitality and agreeing to host you on the chosen date, we will be happy to share our social media profiles, home address, and WhatsApp numbers with you. This will enable us to exchange information and better get to know each other.
