Rainforest Awareness Rescue Education Center – RAREC is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator!

rarec logoThis is a great opportunity for gaining experience with attention and hospitality for volunteers from all over the world, working in coordination with excellent professionals specialising in wildlife care and enhancing your CV. All of that, surrounded by the wonderful Amazon Rainforest in a wildlife rescue centre. The ideal candidate is a go-getter who is enthusiastic no matter the situation. You should love wildlife as you will be living on-site. Problem-solving skills are a must and being able to get on with any type of person.
We are looking for an enthusiastic sociable and responsible team player, for a 3 months UNPAID role to join us. There is potential for permanent employment after the 3 months. Accommodation, food and stipend included.

What are the benefits? ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ
  • This is an unpaid position, we provide accommodation in a shared room and board (drinking water + 3 meals per day), initial training, support on-site and a weekly stipend to cover basic expenses.
  • Electricity all day, access to running water, shared bathrooms with warm water in the shower, access to Wi-Fi internet (fluctuating signal as per the place we are located). Free access to the laundry machine.
  • If you are interested in knowing about Wildlife’s care work, you can have direct experience with the team in charge in your free time of responsibilities as a volunteer coordinator.
  • The responsibilities of this position are developed throughout the day, at different ranges of times. Free time between activities can be used freely at the centre’s facilities.
  • Work 5 days a week, 2 days off per week.
  • Access to:
    • natural lake for swimming.
    • the Amazon River 18-minute distance.
    • Itaya river is 10 minutes away.
    • game room with pool table, fusball, dart board and video arcade.
Requirements:
  • Adapted to tropical climates
  • Highly independent, open-minded and adventurous
  • Enthusiasm and strong ethic
  • Maturity / Must live with and work well with others in a close setting
  • Good judgment, and well-developed emotional intelligence to act independently
  • Good physical condition
  • Can speak fluent English, and basic Spanish (preferred)

Experience in:

  • working with clients and customers
  • attention in the field of food services or restaurants (desirable)
  • attention and hospitality in the field of lodging services (desirable)
Principal tasks:
  • welcome new volunteers and interns, first induction on the facilities for them and rules of coexistence
  • Keeping volunteersโ€™ and internsโ€™ schedules and projects organized on the daily board, in coordination with the Biology team and Veterinary Team
  • Assist volunteers and interns on a daily basis, knowing their background in order to propose alternative activities
  • Ordering and maintaining all necessary volunteer supplies in the kitchen and dining room, in direct coordination with the administration and purchases team
  • Daily feedback to the Administration team regarding meals, rooms and facilities where volunteers and interns reside
  • Promote that volunteers use recreation facilities within the centre in their free time
  • Promote extra activities for volunteers, such as fun activities at night, walks to nearby communities, group visits to the city or tourist places
  • Accompaniment and farewell of the volunteers on each departure date
