Volunteer program in Kenya for interns and learners
This is our volunteer program in Kenya! 🙂 – Our organization (the Gen Foundation) started in 2011 and has been working with other local organizations, partners, volunteers, interns, and professionals. All our projects were inclined to ensure the betterment of the community. We work on:
- HIV/AIDS awareness,
- agriculture, and many more.
We welcome interns, volunteers, and those individuals or organizations interested in helping carry out the mission of the foundation to work with us and work with the rural communities in need. Normally, we have our programs set up over the course of Mondays to Fridays where each day’s activity depends on the day’s schedule. Our approach allows our volunteers to have the freedom of choosing a project to build on and advance it to a self-sustainable stage.

How to get to our site
Airport Pick-up and Transportation to the Project:
Benson will meet you at the Nairobi/Kisumu/Eldoret/Mombasa airports when your flight lands. Benson will be holding a sign for you at the gate in the airport lobby once you exit the security checkpoint (right after you get your luggage). Once we meet, you should use the ATM in the airport (it is to the right side of the lobby once you leave the luggage area) to get 18,000 (KSH) Kenya Shillings (that is about 200 USD) so that you have Kenyan currency.
Benson will bring you to a homestay in Nairobi located in a very nice suburb. It is a clean, nice guest home with hot showers, electricity, and enough beds. You will need to pay the taxi driver the taxi fare of 3000 Ksh (about $30 USD) for the ride from the airport into Nairobi. Meals will be ready at the time of your arrival. Take this time to get rid of the jet lag. All volunteers need to pay for their departure transport to Nairobi airport. Payment must be in Kenya Shillings – so make sure you use the ATM at the airport.
If you plan to do a safari,
you can book your safari and make the arrangements after you already get to the Make Home in heaven Ministries Headquarters. You do NOT need to book your safari when you arrive in Nairobi and do NOT need to pay a deposit then. We recommend that you wait to make these decisions until you get to the home and meet with other volunteers.
This way you can schedule trips together. If you as a volunteer feel uncomfortable at any time because you think the driver is trying to negotiate a new price with you, please let us know through the international coordination email: firstname.lastname@example.org (also see contact details below).
Volunteers in Nairobi for children care projects, farming and environment conservation and HIV/ADS projects stay in Nairobi homestays which are very safe and if you opt to help at our other projects located in Western Kenya we provide a comfortable transportation option for volunteers from Nairobi to Western Kenya.
Matatus and private taxis often break down.
The Easy Coach bus ticket costs 1500 Ksh (around $20 USD) and can be purchased on the morning of your departure at the bus station. Please make sure to tell Benson who picks you up at the airport if you have any needs that you’d like addressed.
We will be in charge of the purchase of your bus ticket. Have no worries. Please note that this applies to the volunteers who wish to be placed in Western Kenya. Western Kenya borders Uganda where we have our other orphanage and women empowerment programs. This will be an easier transit.
Is there internet access?
“Paying guests” Option. Could you accommodate “solidarity” tourists?
Yes, we can accommodate eco/responsible tourists & paying guests
