NEWS! – In the town of Sainte-Livière, a stone’s throw away from the Lac du Der, an interesting summer program called L’Arche De René Animal-tion is looking for enthusiastic individuals ready to embark on an exciting journey. The program, designed for adults aged 18 to 45 with mild intellectual disabilities or behavioural issues, offers an extraordinary opportunity to explore life in nature and experience animal-assisted therapy.

General information about this summer opportunity

The initiative is organized by the Éclaireuses et Éclaireurs de France de Caen (Girl and Boy Scouts of France Caen) and aims to provide a nurturing environment where participants can thrive and explore various outdoor activities. The camp is split into two groups, with one staying in the durable lodging provided by L’Arche De René Animal-tion and the other camping under the stars in tents.

This setup allows for a close connection with nature, where volunteers and guests can experience a sense of community and self-reliance among the participants.

The program offers a diverse range of activities designed to promote physical health, emotional well-being, and social skills.

Participants will have the chance to engage in dog-hiking, Cuddle Therapy, Equi-feel, and Agility.

The Mini-Farm experience introduces them to animal care, teaching responsibility and fostering a connection with the animals. Water activities at Lac du Der, including canoeing and visits to the aqua park, along with tree climbing, beach outings, and hikes, promise excitement and adventure.

Organization goals

L’Arche De René Animal-tion is about creating a space where people can learn, grow, and imagine together.

The organizers believe in building the program as a team, encouraging volunteers and participants to contribute their ideas and creativity to make the experience as enriching as possible.

Dates & benefits

The camp runs from August 3rd to August 25th 2024, with a competitive daily wage of 29 to 39 euros.

This opportunity is perfect for those looking to make a positive impact while enjoying a summer filled with adventure, camaraderie, and the beauty of nature. The contract, known as a CEE, outlines the duration and expectations for volunteers.

In addition to the experience of aiding and engaging with the adults at the camp, L’Arche De René Animal-tion provides a plethora of interesting and fun activities.

Volunteers can rejuvenate alongside the peaceful animals inhabiting the extensive green park—horses, donkeys, dogs, goats, and rabbits.

  • dog discovery workshops including dog-cross,
  • donkey hikes,
  • grooming and playing with ponies,
  • embracing nature by building birdhouses and practicing fishing and ornithology, (the camp brims with hands-on experiences).
  • Butter making workshops,

  • drawing with charcoal.

These are just some of the creative endeavors offered.

Cultural trips

The program also includes cultural trips to the Village Museum of Der, revealing the region’s rich historical and natural heritage, excursions to Saint-Dizier, and refreshing swims and beach visits at Lac du Der. Transportation for these outings and activities is thoughtfully arranged via minibus.

Accommodations at L’Arche De René Animal-tion feature a gîte where volunteers can contribute to cooking and enjoy the comfort of spacious guest rooms, ranging from double to quintuple occupancy, complete with private bathrooms. The gîte is equipped with a dining room, kitchen, lounge, and an activity room, making it a cozy and practical home for the duration of the stay.
