All Hands and Hearts effectively and efficiently addresses the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by disasters. We communicate directly with local leaders and community members and then deploy our unique model of engaging volunteers to enable direct impact, helping to build safer, more resilient schools, homes and infrastructure.

Through community and volunteer engagement, we focus on helping families recover faster after disasters using our Smart Response strategy. In doing so, we strengthen both our volunteers and the communities in which we serve.

Note about the volunteer work and other expectations

Our core scope of work focuses on providing water catchment (shed) with water being made accessible by erecting a simple flatpack bathroom as well as installing a simple septic system tank. We organise and facilitate unskilled workers with skilled tradespeople to ensure quality work to correct standards. If volunteer numbers and resources are sufficient, we have a number of community initiatives with a sustainability/resilience-building focus as well.

Geography

Our program is centred on the village of Cobargo in the Bega Valley. It is on the major bus or coach routes between Sydney and Melbourne and is about 6-8 hours drive from each. We are 2.5 hours from Canberra. The region is traditionally a dairy area of undulating green hills, spectacular beaches and small unspoilt villages and towns. Cobargo is cold in winter, so you’ll need to come prepared with warm clothes and sleeping gear. We are still finalising our base camp location and tents and camping are a real possibility.
