Nestled in the serene backdrop of Northumberland National Park, the Land of Joy Buddhist Retreat Centre stands as a haven of peace and spiritual connection. Established in 2010 under the spiritual guidance of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, it has been a cornerstone for individuals to disconnect from the mundane and delve deep into a transformative journey.
Current Volunteer Positions
The coordinators of the community are excited to invite compassionate souls to join their team! Current vacancies include:

As a volunteer, you’ll benefit from complimentary accommodation, food, and toiletries during your stay.

About Land of Joy
Founded in 2010 and hosting its inaugural retreat in May 2015, the Land of Joy is not just a place but an experience. Inspired by the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) โ a branch of the Gelugpa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism โ it embodies a legacy of wisdom and compassion.
As a residential centre propelled by volunteers, our offerings span from introductory courses to universal weekends and intricate tantric retreats. And our journey doesn’t stop here. We’re on a continuous path of evolution, with plans to enhance our accommodation, expand our practice areas, and create individual retreat huts. Our vision also includes fostering deeper connections with our local community by introducing regular meditation groups and potentially establishing a hospice service in the future.
