volunteering with horses in Sweden – Hi, I am Douglas L. I live in the wonderful Botebo countryside with an amazing 200m longest river in Sweden. In addition to my profession in the social work field where I work with diverse people from different socio-economic cultures and abilities. As the perfect way to escape the busy country life, I embrace the countryside life and farming. Since my children are grown up and are focusing on their families, I devote my life to chicken, a couple of dogs and horses. Furthermore, I love fixing things around the house and love to do general maintenance duties (plumbing, electrical…). Additionally, I was trained as a carpenter. Another hobby that I enjoy a lot is taking photographs.
From you, as a Volunteer, I expect help with taking care of animals, 2 horses, chickens, dogs, cats and other outdoor activities around my farm for example preparation of firewood, gardening, greenhouse etc.
I live and a big house – now I can accommodate one or two people who can have his/her own room.
In return for getting assistance, I can teach:
- Farming/gardening skills
- Horse riding
- Electrical/plumbing skills
- Swedish language…

Volunteers’ benefits 🏆🏅
The advantage for yourself is that if you want to ride or learn to ride, there are many hours outside of working hours…
What to do in your free time 🚴🚣🦒
Pet the animals, go fishing, read a book, pick mushrooms, make food, go for walks with the dogs or without dogs…
My farm is located in the middle of the forest in a small village with few inhabitants, then in winter, it can be down to -10 degrees. In summer, it can get up to 30 degrees.
How to get to your site ✈ 🗺
The easiest way to get to me is by plane to Arlanda Airport, from Arlanda there is a bus or train to the city of Sala. From sala, you take a kiss to the Vivastbo stop. In Vivastbo I will come and pick you up by car. Then we go by car for 3 km, and we arrive!
